Meat and the Medical Humanities
When does the transformation between animal and meat happen? What does it mean for meat to give us energy, caloric and otherwise? In what ways are animal bodies implicated in the materials of medicine and science? Can we trace animality into even the most sterile of environments?
Continuing from my research on thyroid hormone treatment, I am reading and thinking about the emerging field of meat studies — thinking about the way that the (un)dead/(non)living bodies of animals pervade our daily histories and intimacies.
