Cyborg Butterflies, Liminal Medicine: Thyroid Treatment

Thyroid disease is more prevalent than diabetes and breast cancer, but it is rarely talked about as an epidemic or even common ailment. A major controversy in treating thyroid conditions centers around whether or not “natural” or animal-derived medication is as therapeutically viable as “synthetic” or chemically-derived medication.  Cyborg Butterflies, Liminal Medicine focuses on how such a decision was historically and rhetorically made through and with the bodies of women, livestock and lab animals.
